Integrating microScan3 in a secure network

Safety laser scanner microScan3 - Network integration

Functional security technology in automation has mainly been implemented outside Ethernet networks. But the next generation of microScan3 sets new standards. The microScan3 Core is the first safety laser scanner to offer "CIP Safety ™ over EtherNet / IP ™" and is compatible with all commonly used "CIP Safety ™ Ethernet / IP" controllers. The microScan3 Core - PROFINET enables safe and reliable bus communication using the PROFIsafe protocol. The PROFINET IO bus connection is used to process all signals from the higher-level controller (fail-safe programmable logic controller).

The addition of security features within the network allows unsecured security and process data to be shared on the same network. This creates new opportunities for viewing and transmitting status information to higher-level ERP and MES data systems.

Centralized access options for easy diagnosis and maintenance

Both network variants can protect multiple hazardous areas simultaneously and provide up to four protection fields at the same time, allowing multiple conventional I / O scanners to manage the job. This means that these laser scanners help lower purchase costs while increasing productivity. In addition, the new variants save users a lot of time because the devices can be configured easily and quickly on the network. Another advantage is that laser security scanners are protected against forgery. The sensor transmits an exact copy of the security configuration to the control computer, which detects and traces any unauthorized changes to the laser scanner in the field.

Since configuration can be done remotely from a central computer, the entire commissioning process is much easier and faster. The same goes for the operation and maintenance of sensors. Because all data is centralized, anyone accessing it will always get the latest version, which ensures data integrity.

Diagnostic data available everywhere

The possibilities of using the data received to produce and deliver goods in a more cost-effective way - saving resources and improving quality - ultimately depend on the accuracy of the data that represents the process chain. They therefore depend on sensors that detect real conditions and convert them into digital signals. Even in the basic version, the microScan3 safety laser scanner sets new standards with innovative safeHDDM technology. By adding network variants for direct and safe integration into fieldbuses, it is also possible to incorporate sensor data into preventive maintenance concepts, among others. For example, the information provided by the sensor regarding the level of contamination on the front screen is automatically transmitted to the automation system - well in advance to avoid potential negative impacts on performance or a shutdown of the installation due to to danger. If problems occur despite this feature, any errors that have occurred can be identified and analyzed from a central location. This means that it is possible to react quickly, which minimizes potential downtime. It would be a pity if all these data were not available on a network ...
